WE DID IT! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO JOINED THE CIRCLEHOOD…. THE CONSTRUCTION ON THE FRONT PORCH BEGINS.
Join Forces With These Fellow Lovers Of Sag Harbor – Tom O’Donoghue Associates and Baron’s Cove – And Make Our Village Community A More Convivial Place
Villages are living breathing entities reflecting the character and spirit of those who reside within. In the words of Jean Vanier*, “Community is a sign that love is possible in a materialistic world….” The heritage of our community is kept vividly alive through the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum. More than just a museum, it’s the cultural center of the community – offering a gathering spot for all.
“People respond to this museum as if it’s their own front porch and front yard. It’s the heart of the community.” - Greg Therriault, the Museum’s Manager.
Restoring the Museum’s Front Porch
This project is to fund the restoration of the front porch, and to make it handicap accessible. The restoration will include replicating the original porch railings, lost long ago.
So yes, this project is to fund the restoration of the front porch, but it’s so much more… a convivial space for people to gather, to linger…to connect.
Our Fundraising Goal
We need to raise $24,750 by May 15. These funds will cover all costs including labor, material, and fees. Two very generous businesses have stepped up to contribute more than half of the costs. Tom O’Donoghue Associates has pledged $15,000, and Baron’s Cove, part of Cape Resorts, has pledged $5,000. Now we need your help. Join the circlehood. By partnering with Tom O’Donoghue Associates and Baron’s Cove your contribution will complete the project. When individuals and businesses work together to do good, more good happens more quickly. Let’s see if we can’t achieve our goal in a record-breaking thirty days.
About Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum
The Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum is dedicated to keeping our rich whaling heritage alive. Located at 200 Main Street, the beautiful building built by a scion of the whaling industry has housed this East End historic gem since 1936. The museum displays an array of paintings, artifacts, whalebones and teeth, as well as navigation tools, Inuit Native American artifacts and harpoons. Each room of the museum speaks volumes to the history of Sag Harbor. Today the museum is as much a living cultural arts center as it is a nod to the past.
“No place has the ability to capitalize on this unique identity quite like the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum. Traditionally devoted to the history of Sag Harbor, this [past] summer the regal old building has been host to some of the greatest living artists of our time, many of whom call Sag Harbor home.” Emily Weitz
